Sea Turtles in South Padre Island

Sea Turtle Inc. was founded by "The Turtle Lady of South Padre" Ila Fox Loetscher in 1977. This conservation group works to care and protect all seven species of sea turtles. (all of which are endangered!)

What to expect when visiting Sea Turtle Inc:

You will take a self guided tour through the museum and learn all about Sea Turtles, conservation, and more. Outside under tents are the tanks where the residents reside. See each sea turtle and read about their rescue story. You can also check out the hospital where the sick and injured turtles are being cared for. Learn about the patients in the hospital and what kind of challenges sea turtles have to face.

Get there early and check out breakfast time at 10:30 am! Learn about sea turtles' diets and nutrition. Curious about the residents and their stories? At 2:30pm are resident chats where you will be able to ask questions and here about the sea turtles that call Sea Turtle Inc. home. There are also "Turtle Talks" beginning at 11:30am in the outdoor amphitheater that last about fifteen minutes.

I enjoyed visiting Sea Turtle Inc. and would make sure to come again! Fun for the whole family that supports a great cause.

Sea Turtle Inc.'s hours and admission prices are:

Off Season August 22 - May 31: Tuesday-Sunday from 10 am – 4 pm.

Summer Season June 1 - August 21: Tuesday-Sunday 9 am - 5 pm.

Admission prices are: $10 per adult, $6 per senior or military, $4 per child, newborns to age four are free (no cash - card only)

If you are interested in supporting the cause there are plenty of opportunities to donate! Sea Turtle Inc. is working on building a new state of the are hospital to continue providing excellent care to sea turtles.

1. Adoptions: There are three types of adoptions to choose from. "Sea Turtle Nest and Hatchling Adoptions " "Sea Turtle Resident Adoptions" and "Sea Turtle Patient Adoptions" These are linked if you want to read their website.

2. Memberships: Family membership $65, VIP membership $200, VIP Plus membership $500, and Lifetime membership $10,000. Members get exclusive benefits including being the first to know about hatchling releases!

3. Volunteer: If you are looking to be more hands on, Sea Turtle Inc has volunteering opportunities. Get involved in the conservation of our sea turtles.
